The Art Newspaper reports that Wim Pijbes will leave his post as director of Museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar, the Netherlands. The museum, which houses the collection of chemical-industry magnate and ARTnews Top 200 Collector Joop van Caldenborgh, opened just three weeks ago.
This is the second surprising career move this year by Pijbes, who, in March, left his position as the director general of the Rijksmuseum to work for the Museum Voorlinden. At the Rijksmuseum, Pijbes oversaw the institution’s reopening in 2013. The Rijksmuseum had been closed for five years, and after a revamp that cost €375 million (about $392 million), the museum was met with critical acclaim.
Pijbes will be succeeded at the Museum Voorlinden by Suzanne Swarts, who is currently the museum’s artistic director, starting on October 1. He will still be a consultant and a board member at the museum.
